Sharing the importance of in situ orchid conservation
The "Communication" component focuses on raising awareness of orchid conservation and making the work of the In Situ Subgroup accessible to a wider audience. Orchids are often admired for their beauty, but their conservation needs, ecological roles, and threats in the wild are less widely understood.

Through communication, we aim to highlight why conserving orchids in their natural habitats matters. This includes sharing stories about threatened species, important habitats, field projects, Red List assessments, conservation successes, emerging threats, and the people and partnerships behind orchid conservation.

The In Situ Subgroup also seeks to support clear and responsible communication. This is especially important for orchids, as some species may be vulnerable to illegal collection or disturbance. Public communication should therefore balance awareness-raising with care for sensitive species information, particularly exact locations of rare or highly sought-after taxa.

By communicating effectively, we can increase visibility for orchid conservation, support education and outreach, attract collaboration, and help position orchids as important indicators of healthy ecosystems and broader biodiversity conservation.
