Network
Connecting people for orchid conservation
The "Network" component focuses on building and strengthening the relationships needed to conserve orchids effectively. Orchid conservation depends on collaboration between taxonomists, field botanists, ecologists, conservation practitioners, protected-area managers, botanic gardens, universities, herbaria, local communities, governments, and Specialist Group members.
The In Situ Subgroup aims to serve as a bridge between experts, institutions, regions, and conservation initiatives. We support collaboration by helping connect people with shared priorities, encouraging exchange of knowledge, and promoting partnerships that can improve field data, assessments, planning, and action for orchid species and their habitats.
Because orchid diversity is global but conservation capacity is unevenly distributed, strong networks are essential. Local and regional expertise is especially important, and the subgroup seeks to support approaches that recognize and strengthen in-country leadership, long-term partnerships, and ethical collaboration.
Through networking, we aim to make orchid conservation more coordinated, inclusive, and effective across regions and across the wider IUCN SSC community.
